DOMAINE MICHEL REBOURGEON 2022 6-PACK
Allow me to introduce you to William Whitehead
Don't let the English name fool you
He's a born-in-the-vineyards Burgundian!
But that's another story.
What you need to know here is that William is a prodigy
He has taken the reins at his parent's Domaine Michel Rebourgeon
And he has Burgundy in a tizzy. 'Genius' is a word that I do not use lightly
But the names I want to name-drop are:
Pommard 1er Cru 'Rugiens' 2022
Volnay 1er Cru 'Carelle Sous la Chapelle' 2022
Beaune 1er Cru 'Chouacheux' 2022
Put the two together
William Whitehead and Name-Droppable Red Burgundy...and by now I should have your attention.
6 Bottle pack includes 2 bottles of each RED:
Domaine Michel Rebourgeon Pommard 1er Cru ‘Les Rugiens’ 2022
If there ever were to be a Grand Cru in Pommard, it would ne Rugiens. Many call it the Richebourg of the Cote de Beaune. The Domaine Rebourgeon owns a tiny slice of under a half an acre. Always tight when young, it nevertheless has so much going on that you can’t help but get an idea of what the future holds. Rugiens is muscular due to its poor rocky iron ore soil. The fruit struggles, and the juice produced is always intense. Ripe cherry is the fruit, but there’s so much more. Power and structure, explosive from start to finish. Long, long finish that just keeps coming, full of cherry fruit and that structure that tells you that you want to have a bottle of this in your cellar 25 years from now.
Domaine Michel Rebourgeon Volnay 1er Cru ‘Carelle Sous la Chapelle’ 2022
This is probably the most sylph-like, ethereal of all the Volnays. Supple laciness that envelops the palate, intense but weightless. Yet at the same time it is earth and dark chocolate, with smoky minerality, and a high-pitched acidity that carries the Volnay violets into a crescendo finish.
Domaine Michel Rebourgeon Beaune 1er Cru ‘Les Chouacheux’ 2022
Just below Beaune 1er Cru Vignes-Franches. Old vine concentration. The finesse of red berry fruit opens out towards a structured finish. There’s that ethereal freshness and airiness that this Volnay side of Beaune gives. The fruit finishes sweetly on the back of great acidity. Lovely even young.
