HOSPICES DE BEAUNE 2024 1/6 PARTNER SHARE
The Hospices de Beaune Wine auction takes place in November. So here's your last chance to join us in a Partner's consortium to buy a barrel.
Join us... Here's how:
We have selected some remarkable wines over the past 10 years, and we are really pleased with the whole experience...especially the wine! We have become Hospices insiders, with contacts that get us into the top professional tastings with oenologists, wine makers and Masters of Wine. So, come auction day, we know what we want.
2024 promises to be a very Burgundian year, deep and rich. Great structure, ideal ripeness. But it looks like a fairly small yield, hence a small quantity of wine will be available. So we are hoping to snag a gem.
Prices vary depending on the appellation, of course, but we have been able to get some remarkable premier cru wines these past few years in the €20,000 – €25,000 EUR range (hammer price) for a 228 liter barrel.
In this price range, we are buying wines that will eventually retail in the $230 - $250 per bottle range. The cost to you will be around $145 a bottle. So for a share, 48 bottles the cost is $7,000 USD. But that's just part of it. You also get something priceless and rare. You get the thrill of taking part in a Burgundy tradition, of participating in one of the great events in all the world of wine.
Here's how we structure the 'consortium':
Ideally we have 5 members per consortium, with burgundywine.com taking a 6th part for its services.
One BARREL. Maximum price to be determined by the members, but in our experience, $25,000 EUR is a sweet spot for a good premier cru.
Approximate budget: €25,000 EUR hammer price.
Additional costs: Sothebys' commission = +7% of sale. The barrel itself = €800 EUR. Raising, bottling, labeling and packing = €3,000 EUR. Transportation, insurnace and shipping costs. The barrel raising is done by one of our winemakers, depending on the appellation of the wine purchased.
We count 288 bottles per barrel, divided 6 ways, each partner gets 48 bottles.
burgundywine.com covers the cost of shipping to our west coast cellars. State taxes and onward ground shipment is additional, the cost of which depends on where you take delivery and is billed separately, before onward shipping.
The wine is usually shipped 15 months after the purchase.
So a partner's share on a €25,000 EUR barrel, plus the additional costs, works out to $7,000 USD.
Join us! It's a great Burgundian tradition, a great cause...and great fun.
