As you know, every year since 2013 Elden has bought one or more barrels at the annual charity wine auction at the Hospices de Beaune

But you may not know that we also bought at the 'sister' Charity Auction in Nuits St Georges in the 2019, 2020, 2022 and 2023 vintages. And what vintages they have proven to be in the Cotes de Nuits!

We will be present at the Hospices de Nuits auction for the 2024 vintage on 9 March, and hope to snag something just as great. And you can join us!

We will be shooting for a Nuits St Georges premier cru. And we are looking to buy a barrel which will be raised by our good friend Pascal Marchand at Marchand-Tawse in Nuits St Georges itself. So it could not be in better hands!  

I am putting together a group of partners who would like to be part of this purchase.

We won't be able to taste the wines until the week before the event, But we have become Hospices insiders, with contacts that get us into the top professional tastings with oenologists, wine makers and Masters of Wine. So, come auction day, we will know what we want.
 
Prices vary depending on the appellation, of course, but we have been able to get some remarkable premier cru wines these past few years in the 20- 25,000 EURO range (hammer price) for a 228 liter barrel.

In this price range, we are buying wines that will eventually retail for $210-240 a bottle, making the cost to you extremely interesting.
But that's just part of it.  
You get something priceless and rare.
You get the thrill of taking part in a Burgundy tradition, of participating in one of the great events in all the world of wine.

Here's a quick description of how we structure the 'consortium'.

We would have 5 members, with Elden taking a 6th part for its services.

1 BARREL.  Maximum price to be determined by the members, but in our experience, 20,000 EUR is a sweet spot in the current market
Approximate budget: 20000 euro hammer price
Additional costs include commission to the auction house, the barrel itself, and the services of Marchand-Tawse to raise, bottle and prepare for shipping
Bringing the total to around 30000 EURO (or $32000)

So a partner's share will be $6400
Count 288 bottles per barrel, divided 6 ways, each partner gets 48 bottles (4 cases 12x750ml).

Elden will cover the cost of shipping to our west coast warehouse. Onward ground shipment to you and state sales tax is additional, and cost will depend on where you will take delivery.

The wine is usually shipped 15 months after the purchase.  Sales tax and shipping charges will be determined when the wines arrive in the states.
