The River Serein runs through the Chablis valley. Wines from the left bank are more mineral and fresh; Wines from the right bank are rounder and opulent.

Fabien Dauvissat has important holdings in 'village' Chablis (what is known locally as 'Chablis tout-court'). So he is unique in being able to offer 'appellation Chablis' in nearly all the premier cru zones. Essentially, single vineyard Chablis!

A case in point (pun intended)
Chablis 'Bas de Fourchaumes' is situated just below the premier cru Fourchaumes.
And Chablis Mont-Main Sourdelle sits in the heart of the left bank premier crus.

And I choose these, because Fourchause is the quintessential 'right back' vineyard, and Montmain one of the great 'left bank' wines.

Add to this the fruit and tension of the 2022 vintage, and we're talking about a case of wine that bears discussion.

Fourchaume is the best known of the Chablis premier crus, perhaps because it is an extension of the Grand Cru vineyards, and benefits from a similar Right Bank exposition. Round, mature fruit, crystalline purity, sweet, lemony acidity classic cool river rock minerality. A classic Chablis premier cru.

Here we have two vineyards (Mont-Main and Sourdelles), situated in the village of Beines in front of two of the best ‘left-bank premiers crus (Côtes de Lechet and Vau de Vey) Given the Left Bank exposure, it’s not surprising to find a steely minerality and a lean, laser-beam expression of the fruit and floral bouquet that is village Chablis. Exquisite precision.
