Greetings friends,
As we look for the telltale signs of the coming spring, March is a time of careful observation and seasonal rituals. The first daffodils pushing through to the surface; the vegetable garden, garlic and favas and greens; the tears of sap forming on the recently pruned vines. It's meditative introspection, and it's all happening here and now.
Just as spring is the seasonal time of renewal it is the time we start preparing for you, our guests, to come and
stay at Cromey and to share with you the bounty and abundance that is a hallmark of Burgundy. Why we came here in the first place and what holds us here.
And while the beauty that surrounds us changes with the seasons, something about Burgundy, the place, is immutable. Its history and architecture; its culture and folklore; the signs at every turn that show us that we are in a place that has always been influential.
At Cromey, we'll show you the vines and the gardens and the
potager, but Burgundy is so much more. Come trace the ancient Greek trade routes, or sit in the amphitheater of the greatest Roman city in Gaul. Come see the birthplace of monasticism, and see history evolve before your eyes. Come taste the wine from vineyards whose greatness is the result of centuries of
ora et labora. The great Dukes of Burgundy left a legacy that is awe-inspiring to this day. And because the latter-day Burgundians hold their traditions dear, the Burgundy we see today is honest and real, true to its root. In this issue we include
an interesting article about passionate custodianship of ancient vines from one of the greatest appellations as time unfolds and the inevitability of change is encountered.
And it's all here, a short drive from the Domaine de Cromey. So you can have it all. The beauty of nature in a splendid country estate, and the sweep of medieval history in every village and market town.
In every issue we always include an interesting article on food. Well of course! This one is a classic. French onion soup made the French way. But what is different is the way we pair this wine wine. Yes,
wine and soup!
And speaking of tradition...don't forget....the annual famous Hospices de Nuits charity wine auction takes place on SUN 9 MARCH. We will be there, buying wine by the barrel for interested clients and you can join in.
Shares and
half shares are still available.
So remember, March is a great time to plan and book your stay at Cromey.
Find out how here.
We look forward to welcoming you to the heart of Burgundy,
